Why Mother Centered Care?

There may feel like there is a surge of conversation and professionals popping up highlighting how important support for new Mothers are. Although this feels like a new fad, Mother Centered care is largely an old practice that is widely ritualised around the world today since forever. Much like teenagers coming of age ceremonies, women becoming Mothers are celebrated and wrapped in rituals to ensure she is welcomed into this incredible time. Becoming a mother is hard work, and not something we were born to do in isolation.

Throughout history mothering has been a collective affair. “It takes a village to raise a child” is still relevant and especially when raising a child requires nurturing parents to be capable and confident.

I studied with Julia Jones at Newborn Mothers to become a postpartum doula. It is a CPD endorsed activity by the Australian College of Midwives I graduated in March 2021 and in May, 2023 I completed the Breastfeeding Support course so I can support parents to reach their goals for normal breastfeeding. Since then Julia has expanded the course so it incorporates mental health, and sleep which I have been retraining in within the new course. I found Newborn Mothers a welcoming and nurturing space to learn and also gain lots of support in starting a business. Julia and her team are really responsive and so helpful.

If you are feeling the call to become a Professional Postpartum Educator and Carer. And you deeply feel called to be of service doing meaningful work and to be with women and birthing parents. You can start your journey here. I will earn some commission, and I only share programs I truly believe in that centre Mothers in a holistic approach.
